Slack
Connect Slack, choose channels, and sync conversation evidence into Layr.
Slack is often the highest-signal starting point for product feedback. Layr ingests messages and thread context from Slack channels you explicitly include — not every channel in the workspace.
Who can connect Slack
Only Owner and Workspace admin roles can open Integrations and manage Slack. Other members see source freshness on Home but cannot change scope or sync settings.
Before you connect
- You need permission to install or approve Slack apps for the Slack workspace you want to connect.
- Decide which channels hold product-relevant conversations (for example
#product-feedback,#support-escalations, or customer-facing channels your team monitors). - Start with a small set of high-signal channels rather than enabling everything at once.
Connect Slack
Open Integrations
In the Layr app, open Integrations from the workspace navigation.
Start OAuth
On the Slack card, select Connect and approve Layr in Slack. The connection is stored at the workspace level.
Refresh available channels
After OAuth completes, Layr discovers channels it can see. Select Refresh sources if the list is empty or missing channels you expect.
Enable channels and confirm
Toggle on only the channels Layr should read, then select Confirm and start first sync. Disabled channels are never ingested.
Public vs. private channels
| Channel type | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Public | Usually appear after connect or refresh. Layr can join readable public channels when scopes allow. |
| Private | Invite the Layr Slack app to the private channel in Slack first, then return to Layr and Refresh sources. |
If enabled channels show access warnings on the Slack card, follow the in-app guidance — typically inviting the bot in Slack or reconnecting Slack if the workspace connected before auto-join was available.
After the first sync
- Home shows source freshness for connected Slack channels.
- Sync history on Integrations lists recent ingestion runs and errors.
- Admins can run additional sync or backfill actions from the Slack card when you need a deeper historical window.
Tips
- Connect one or two channels first, confirm evidence looks right in Layr, then expand scope.
- Keep sensitive or off-topic channels disabled — source selection is your privacy control.
- If someone else owns Slack admin access, copy the admin instructions from the top of the Integrations page and send them to that person.
