Deactivate your account
Disable your Layr account, understand the impact, and learn how to reactivate.
Deactivating disables your entire Layr account. You're signed out everywhere and can no longer sign in until you reactivate. This is the account-wide equivalent of stepping away — different from leaving a single workspace.
Deactivation is reversible
Deactivating is not a permanent delete. For 14 days afterward you can restore your account yourself with an email link. Workspace history stays intact while you're away.
Before you deactivate
Owners must transfer ownership first
If you own any workspace, you can't deactivate yet. Transfer ownership to someone else, or leave those workspaces, and then deactivate. This keeps every workspace with an owner.
Know what to expect:
- All your active sessions are revoked immediately.
- Your account status becomes deactivated and sign-in is blocked.
- Workspace history remains intact — you simply lose access until you reactivate.
Deactivate step by step
Open the Danger tab
Go to Account settings → Danger. This tab holds the deactivation controls.
Start deactivation
Choose Deactivate account. If you own a workspace, Layr blocks the action here and reminds you to transfer ownership or leave first.
Confirm your identity and intent
In the confirmation dialog you:
- Enter your password.
- Choose a reason (and optionally add notes to help us improve).
- Type DEACTIVATE to confirm you mean it.
You're signed out
Layr deactivates the account, revokes every session, and signs you out. We email you to confirm the change.
Reactivating your account
Reactivation is self-serve for 14 days after deactivation.
Go to the reactivation page
From the sign-in screen, if you try to sign in to a deactivated account Layr points you to reactivation. You can also open the reactivation page directly.
Request a reactivation link
Enter your account email. If a deactivated account exists for it, we email a reactivation link. The link is valid for 14 days.
Confirm
Open the link to restore your account. Once reactivated, sign in with your existing email and password.
After 14 days
The self-serve reactivation window is 14 days. If it lapses and you still need access, contact us at hello@uselayr.com.
Deactivate vs. leave vs. delete
| Action | Scope | Reversible |
|---|---|---|
| Leave a workspace | One workspace | Yes, with a new invite |
| Deactivate account | Your whole account | Yes, self-serve for 14 days |
| Permanent account delete | Your whole account | Not self-serve today |
Layr does not currently offer a self-serve permanent delete of your account — deactivation is the available control. For a full erasure request, reach out at hello@uselayr.com. For how we handle and retain data, see Data and privacy.
